Gallery

I seek to convey a visceral response to the landscape in a holistic approach to painting. My interest and background in science, has led to the use of working with binders, pigments and inks that are either, derived from the local environment or sourced commercially. I have a recognisable way of working with Watercolour, Casein, Acrylic, Oil and Cold Wax medium often using unconventional application methods. The aim of my practice is to develop a direct correlation between the landscape subject and its constitution. Layers of shifting colour and the irregular quality of natural pigments are not easily copied, so making my work an original visual language. My paintings depict the geological and weather related processes that occur in nature, particularly in locations that have fragile ecosystems.

The Gallery shows a selection of paintings where I have used a variety of techniques which demonstrate the key characteristics of the different methods I employ. Each painting shows the unpredictability of materiality and also the synaesthetic connection between substance and form.
